Pop-Tarts Buying Guide
Published 2026-10-27
Pop-Tarts are one of the easiest shelf-stable breakfasts to keep around. They need no refrigeration, come wrapped in pairs, and can be eaten warm or straight from the pouch. With so many flavors and box sizes, though, it helps to know what you are buying. This guide covers the classic flavors, how the pack counts work, and a few ways to make them a little more filling.
Classic flavors people reach for
Frosted Strawberry and Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon are the long-time favorites and the easiest picks if you are buying for a group. Frosted Blueberry, Wild Berry, Cookies and Creme and seasonal flavors come and go. If you are not sure what everyone likes, a variety pack lets each person try a few flavors before you commit to a full box.
Understanding pack sizes
Pop-Tarts come in foil pouches of two pastries. A 16-count value pack holds eight pouches, which is about a week of breakfasts for one person who eats a full pouch, or two weeks for someone who eats one pastry a day. Large variety packs with 36 or more pastries suit families, offices, dorms and teams, and they usually cost less per pastry than small boxes.
Serving them warm
Many people like Pop-Tarts warmed in a toaster on a low setting. Follow the heating directions printed on the box, stay nearby while they toast, and let them cool for a minute because the filling gets very hot. Frosted pastries can drip in the toaster, so some people warm them in a toaster oven instead. They are also perfectly fine at room temperature, which makes them handy for packed lunches and road trips.
Make breakfast more balanced
A pastry on its own is mostly carbohydrate, so pair it with a glass of milk, a yogurt, a piece of fruit or a boiled egg for a more filling morning. Store unopened pouches in a cool, dry cupboard and check the best-by date on the box. If you buy a big variety pack, put the pouches in a basket so everyone can see what is left.
